Medication Musings
It’s totally okay to need chemical help
I hope nobody makes you feel ashamed of taking meds for your mental health.
And that includes you.
Mental health conditions have a biological cause, an organ in your body going haywire. Your brain needs some extra support.
And a lot of times, that can mean psychotropic medication to right the brain chemicals that got out of whack.
Some may need medication only for a temporary boost. Some may find a pill they only need to take some days. But a lot of us take one or half a dozen meds daily. Every brain is different, and they don't just fit on a spectrum of good to bad.
It's actually frustrating as hell how different brains are because it can make the meds game feel fruitless. Side effects all over the place and who knows what's actually even going to work? Or when?
Yeah, it's a shitty game. I'd encourage you to play it anyway.
My life has changed since a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic first quieted the chaos in my head I'd known all my life.
The cocktail has changed too. More than once. I've tried to quit them all (actually just once! It went terribly, more on that later).
I can't tell you what meds will work for you. I *can* tell you that if your brain is making you suffer, there are A LOT of possible options out there to explore. And none of them make you a weak or broken person.
